1. Introduction

Swiftlit Study LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates swiftlit.app (the "Site") and the Swiftlit mobile application (the "App"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you visit our Site, use the App, or use our web-based tools (such as the "Set Creator").


2. Information We Collect

We believe in data minimalism. We do not require you to create an account to use the basic features of our Site or App.

  1. Log Data: Like most websites, our host (Odoo) and server providers automatically collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit the Site (e.g., IP address, browser type). This is standard procedure for security and diagnostics.

  2. Mobile App Data: By default, the App stores your flashcards, study progress, review statistics, subscribed RSS feeds, bookmarks, and highlights locally on your device's filesystem. We do not transmit, view, or store your personal study content or reading materials on our servers.

  3. Optional Cloud Synchronization Data: If you choose to enable the optional Cloud Sync feature, the App packages your flashcards, study statistics, RSS feed subscriptions, bookmarks, and text highlights into an encrypted/structured backup file (swiftlit_sync.json) and transmits it directly to your own personal cloud account:

    • Apple iCloud: Synced directly to your private iCloud container linked to your Apple ID.

    • Google Drive: Synced directly to your private Google Drive Application Data folder (appDataFolder).

Note on E-Books: Due to space concerns, the full binary files of downloaded or imported EPUB books are stored strictly on your local device filesystem and are never uploaded to or synchronized via Cloud Sync.

  1. Cookies: Our website uses essential cookies for the functioning of the Odoo platform. We do not use cookies for third-party advertising or invasive tracking.

  2. Set Creator Data: When you use the "Set Creator" tool on our Site, the data is processed entirely within your browser (client-side) using Local Storage. We do not view, store, or sell the content you process with this tool.

3. Device Permissions (Mobile App)

To provide specific features, the App may request access to certain device functions:

  1. Notifications: Used solely to send you local reminders for study sessions ("Swiftlit Study Reminders"). These are scheduled locally on your device; we do not track your schedule remotely.

  2. Speech/Audio: The App uses your device's native text-to-speech engine to read questions and answers aloud. We do not record your voice.

  3. Screen Time & App Blocking (Ephemeral): To provide the "Ephemeral" and "Edwin's Shield" focus features, the App requests access to iOS Screen Time APIs (FamilyControls, ManagedSettings) or Android Accessibility, Overlay, and Usage Access permissions. We use these permissions strictly locally on your device to restrict access to distracting apps and websites as configured by you. We absolutely do NOT monitor, record, collect, or transmit your app usage history, browsing history, or screen content to our servers or any third parties. All blocking logic happens securely and privately on your device.

  4. Internet & Network Access: The App uses network access strictly to:

    • Validate and restore in-app purchases via RevenueCat;

    • Upload and download your backup files to your own Apple iCloud or Google Drive account (only when Cloud Sync is enabled by you);

    • Fetch RSS feed content and articles that you voluntarily subscribe to in Flight;

    • Query the Gutendex public API and download public domain e-books from Project Gutenberg that you choose to download.

4. Payments and Subscriptions

We do not process payments or store your credit card information directly.

Mobile Subscriptions: All purchases made within the App (e.g., Swiftlit Premium) are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We only receive a transaction receipt to verify your premium status; we do not have access to your billing details.


5. How We Use Your Information

We use the limited data we collect solely to:

  • Provide and maintain the functionality of the Site and App.

  • Monitor usage trends (anonymized) to detect technical issues.

  • Verify subscription status via Apple or Google services.

6. Third-Party Services and Subscriptions

Our Services may contain links to third-party websites or services. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.

To process "Swiftlit Pro" in-app subscriptions, we use a third-party provider called RevenueCat. RevenueCat generates an anonymous App User ID to manage your subscription status, validate receipts with the app stores, and restore past purchases. This process collects anonymous purchase history and basic app interaction data required strictly for app functionality and analytics. No personally identifiable financial information (like your credit card number) is ever visible to or stored by the app, website, or Swiftlit Study LLC.

Google Drive API (Cloud Sync): If you choose to connect Google Drive for cross-device synchronization, the App requests access to the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.appdata scope.

  • Restricted Folder Access: This scope only grants the App access to its own dedicated, hidden "Application Data" folder within your Google Drive. The App cannot view, access, edit, or delete any of your personal files, photos, documents, or other folders stored in your Google Drive.

  • Usage: We use this access solely to read and write your swiftlit_sync.json backup file so your study progress and feeds can synchronize between your devices.

  • No Third-Party Sharing or Advertising: We do not sell your Google Drive data, share it with third parties, use it for advertising, or use it to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models.

  • Google API Services User Data Policy Compliance: Swiftlit's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Apple iCloud (Cloud Sync): If you choose to use iCloud sync on iOS devices, your data is synced using Apple's CloudKit / iCloud infrastructure. Your data is protected under Apple’s privacy and security protocols. Swiftlit Study LLC does not have access to your Apple ID or your iCloud account credentials.

Flight Sub-App, RSS Feeds, and Project Gutenberg (Gutendex):

  • RSS Feeds: When you subscribe to an RSS feed in Flight, the App directly requests public RSS/Atom feeds from the URL you provide. No personally identifiable information is sent to the feed provider other than standard HTTP connection requests.

  • Gutendex & Project Gutenberg: When searching for books in Perch, the App queries the open Gutendex API (an open-source catalog of Project Gutenberg). Searches are anonymous and do not transmit user accounts or personal profiles. Downloaded books are saved directly to your device.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Because we do not maintain user accounts or central databases storing your personal study content, your data remains entirely in your control. You may delete your local data at any time by clearing your data within the App or uninstalling the App from your device. If you use Cloud Sync, you may delete your cloud backup file (swiftlit_sync.json) directly from your Google Drive ('Manage Apps' settings) or your Apple iCloud storage settings at any time. 


8. Children’s Privacy

Our Site and App are not directed to anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children under 13.


9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
